Past exhibitions 2017

NOVEMBER 11TH 2017 - APRIL 8TH 2018

++ "CONSIDÉRER LE MONDE : NARRATIVE ART", MUSEUM COLLECTION

On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Saint Étienne Métropole is shedding light on the diversity of its extensive and unique collection.

The exhibition reflects the wealth and depth of the MAMC+ collections, benefiting in particular from the major donations in the 1990’s of Vicky Rémy and François and Ninon Robelin. The collection is unique in France, enabling the museum to present some fifty works from 25 European and American artists, alongside the collection of archives and publications held in the Jean Laude library.

The expression "Narrative Art" was used in the 1970’s to describe new artistic practices heralding a return to narration by combining photography and text. Emerging on the fringes of conceptual art, this international movement revealed a sensibility towards the time, where identity, memory, autobiography and fiction comprised the main themes.
